What is the size of a Maremmano horse?

A Maremmano horse generally measures around 1.60 to 1.72 m at the withers, that is to say at shoulder height, and not up to the head. The size varies from one individual to another: as an indication, measurements taken at 42 mois give approximately 1.66 m for males and 1.64 m for females.

In practice, it is therefore a rather large saddle horse, but not a draft horse. If you see one in the Maremma, don't rely only on its silhouette: its build and neck can make it appear more imposing than its measured size. The figures are orders of magnitude, not a guarantee for every horse; age, lineage and morphology also play a role. To compare two horses, look at the measurement at the withers rather than their head height, which depends on their posture.

A photo taken at an angle can give it misleading proportions; to judge its presence, it is better to see it next to a rider.
