What camera gear should you bring to Tuscany?

For Tuscany, bring a lightweight camera with a versatile zoom, a spare battery and an extra memory card; your phone may be enough if you want to travel without a camera bag. A lens covering around 24–70 mm (in full-frame equivalent) works well for villages, landscapes and street scenes. Add a wide-angle if you often photograph architecture, or a telephoto lens of about 200–300 mm for birds and wildlife in Maremma. A polarizing filter can help reduce reflections and boost sky contrast, but it isn't essential.

Also bring a lens cloth and light protection against rain and dust. A tripod is only useful if you plan to shoot at dawn, at night or with long exposures; otherwise, it quickly weighs down your bag, especially in the narrow streets. In summer, the heat can be intense, particularly in July and August: keep your gear in the shade and avoid leaving it in a car. The climate varies by area, between the coast, the hills and the inland mountains; in spring or autumn, protection against showers is therefore still handy.

The real trap is spending your stay swapping lenses instead of looking up: in Tuscany, the shadow of a cypress can make a more memorable photo than a well-stocked bag.
