What is the best choice between Marina di Grosseto and Castiglione della Pescaia?

For a stay where you also want to enjoy a real town centre to stroll through in the evening, choose Castiglione della Pescaia ; for a holiday focused mainly on the beach, with a simpler and more family-friendly atmosphere, Marina di Grosseto will probably be more practical. In Castiglione, you have the old hilltop village, the harbour and restaurants just a few steps from the sea. On the other hand, in high summer, crowds and prices can climb, and parking near the centre sometimes requires patience.

Marina di Grosseto suits you better if you prefer a long sandy beach, the pine forest and beach services without looking for a lively historic village. The downside: the setting is more resort-like and less picturesque in the evening. The two resorts are close to each other — about 12 km, i.e. 15 to 20 minutes by car outside heavy traffic — and a cycle path also links their surroundings. So you can stay in one and visit the other, but in July-August allow extra time on the road and for parking. If you want to explore the hinterland and the city, also look at Grosseto. My default choice for a first stay would be Castiglione; for a quieter, more functional beach stay, Marina.

A little wild boar test: imagine your ideal evening — would you rather wander aimlessly or head back after a busy day by the water? Your answer will often settle the choice between the two better than a beach photo!
