À Rocchette di Fazio, you mainly come to see a small medieval village perched above the Albegna valley: wander its stone alleys up to the remains of the Rocca Aldobrandesca, then stop at the viewpoint to look out over the valley. Within the castle walls, look for the pieve of Santa Cristina, a Romanesque church now deconsecrated, as well as the former palaces of power. Below, the Palazzo dell'Ospedaletto recalls the welcoming of travellers in the Middle Ages; its connection with the Templars is often mentioned, but it is better not to take all the local legends for established facts.
The village can be visited leisurely in about an hour, longer if you take time for photos. Don't expect a set of monuments with regular opening hours: several buildings are best discovered from the outside, and the alleys are sloped, sometimes uneven. If you want to walk, a marked trail starts near the square and leads to the Bosco dei Rocconi nature reserve ; the advertised route is about 3 km, with an elevation gain of about 260 m and medium difficulty. Suitable shoes and water are useful, especially in hot weather. Semproniano is about 3 km away ; Rocchette di Fazio is best suited to a short stop rather than a full day.
