Why is Castiglione della Pescaia famous?

Castiglione della Pescaia is best known for its sandy beaches, its old town dominated by a medieval fortress and its location on the edge of the nature reserve of Diaccia Botrona. This blend of sea, heritage and wetlands sets it apart from a mere seaside resort. In the historic centre, the narrow streets climb up to the castle; below, the port and the canal recall that the village remains tied to fishing. You can explore more of the town and its surroundings by taking the time to move away from the seafront.

The coast offers equipped beaches, but also free stretches, with different landscapes depending on the area: sandy beaches towards Marina di Grossetosmall coves and headlands towards Le Rocchette. The reserve of Diaccia Botrona, near the village, offers another face of the Maremma, with its marshes and its birds. Grosseto is about 23 km away by road, i.e. around 30 minutes by car outside dense traffic. Good to know: in July and August, the centre and the beaches are busy, parking can be less easy and beach establishments charge a fee; free beaches allow you to avoid this cost. To combine the coast and nature, you can also follow this two-day itinerary from Grosseto.

Don't race between the beach and the village: save a little energy to wander around, that's where Castiglione della Pescaia reveals its other rhythm.
