Where are the San Filippo hot springs located?

The hot springs of Bagni San Filippo are located in southern Tuscany, in the Val d'Orcia, within the municipality of Castiglione d’Orcia, in the province of Siena. The village is located near the Mount Amiata, inland: so it is not a seaside spa resort of the Maremma.

From Siena, allow about 60 km and 1 h 15 of driving ; since Florence, rather 150 km and about 2 h, depending on the route and traffic. The natural pools are located along the White Creek (Fosso Bianco), in the village: search for «Bagni San Filippo» on your GPS, then follow the signs to this area. The Balena Bianca, a large white limestone formation, is a well-known landmark on site.

Good to know: the word «hot springs» can be confusing. We are mainly talking about open-air natural pools here, not a large spa facility with guaranteed services. Access to the pools may require walking on an uneven path; bring suitable shoes and check local conditions before setting off.

I wouldn't squeeze this in between two visits at a rushed pace: give yourself time, this kind of detour is best savored without watching the clock.
