Where is the Forte delle Rocchette located?

The Forte delle Rocchette is located on the coastal promontory of the Rocchette, in the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia, in the province of Grosseto, in Tuscany. It is north of Castiglione, on the coast in the direction of Punta Ala, above the Rocchette beach. From the center of Castiglione della Pescaia, allow about 5 à 6 km by road, following the signs for Rocchette.

The fortification is known as early as the XIIᵉ siècle, and was later reinforced in the 16th century to defend the coastline. Do not confuse it with the castle in the center of Castiglione: the fort stands on the promontory overlooking the sea. It is today a private property and cannot be visited inside; you can observe it from the surroundings, especially from the beach area. To get there, follow the Rocchette provincial road, then the signs for the seaside. In summer, allow some extra time for parking: spaces near the beach may be paid and can fill up. The simplest option is therefore to head for the Rocchette beach, rather than looking for a public entrance into the fort.

The fort gives this stretch of coast a little historical-set feel, without stealing the show from the sea.
