What to visit around Grosseto?

Around Grosseto, commence par Roselle, about 10 km to the north : its archaeological site brings together Etruscan and Roman remains, and the visit requires walking a route of about 2 km. For nature, head to Alberese, at 15 km, gateway to the Maremma Park. The trails require a fee depending on the route, generally around 5 to 10 € ; in summer, access to the Marina di Alberese beach may be regulated and parking spaces limited.

For the sea, Marina di Grosseto and Principina a Mare are the simplest outings. If you want a coastal village with an old town center, go on to Castiglione della Pescaia, about 23 km — allow about thirty minutes by car, longer in the summer season. This area is busier in summer; off-season, some places and activities close.

You can also devote a day to the inland areas: Pitigliano and Sovana are beautiful tuff villages, but are not right next door. For Saturnia, allow about 60 km and an hour of driving depending on the route. The natural pools are outdoors; bring a towel and shoes that can handle water and rocks.
