Comment on noteThe wine
Let me guide you toward a discovery that embodies the soul of Tuscany, a wine that, though discreet, reveals an unexpected depth. It is an invitation to explore the ancestral know-how of the Marchesi Antinori, a family whose name resonates with the winemaking history of this blessed land.
This Toscana IGT is the fruit of the Villa del Cigliano estate, located in San Casciano Val di Pesa, in the heart of Tuscany. The Marchesi Antinori, with a winemaking tradition spanning more than six centuries, are guardians of this unique terroir. This wine is a thoughtful blend of 55% Sangiovese, the region's emblematic grape variety, complemented by 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 5% Syrah, a marriage that gives it its complexity and balance. The 2023 vintage, born from these generous lands, promises fine evolution.
From the very first glance, its color envelops you in an intense, deep red. On the nose, I perceive a symphony of aromas: black cherry (amarena) mingles with the freshness of blood orange, while more complex notes of green pepper, boxwood, toasted wood and tobacco enrich the bouquet. On the palate, this wine offers a balanced structure. The grapes, destemmed and crushed, fermented at a controlled temperature of 25-26°C, with a ten-day maceration, followed by malolactic fermentation. Its aging in French and Hungarian oak barriques gave it tannins that are present yet silky, and a persistence that invites contemplation.
This Toscana IGT is a true gastronomic chameleon. I warmly recommend it with flavorful pasta (paste saporite), pork roasts (arrosti di maiale) that will enhance its fruity notes, or game (selvaggina) for a bold pairing. It also pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses (formaggi stagionati), where its tannins will find a perfect echo. It is the ideal wine to accompany a convivial meal with friends or family, one of those evenings where conversations stretch on and laughter flows. Let it express itself at a moderate temperature so it reveals all its splendor.
