What is Villa San Casciano dei Bagni?

“Villa San Casciano dei Bagni” does not clearly refer to a particular monument: you probably mean San Casciano dei Bagni, a thermal village in the province of Siena, in Tuscany. Its historic center can be visited on foot: you will find in particular the Palazzo dell'Arcipretura, from the 16th century, and the Palazzo Comunale. It is not a large museum-city; the interest lies mainly in the connection between the village and its hot springs.

For ancient heritage, the site of the Bagno Grande, below the village, houses the remains of an Etruscan-Roman thermal sanctuary. The excavations have revealed statues and votive objects associated with the waters. Access to the archaeological area is regulated and may require a guided visit; the nearby thermal pools are not the same thing as a developed site with services.

The village is located about 25 km from Chiusi by road ; Chiusi station is some 20 minutes by car. Allow a few hours for the center and the surroundings. If you were thinking of a specific villa — an accommodation, for example — give me its full name: it may be a private property rather than a heritage site.

The name is a little misleading: you expect to visit a villa, and you come across a story far more connected to the waters than to grand salons. It is precisely this contrast that sparks curiosity!
