An IGT Toscana from Greve in Chianti blending Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for at least 24 months in barrique, with numerous and precise food pairings. Main reservation: no distinction mentioned and a high price of €90.40 for an IGT appellation with no reputation benchmark.
IGT Toscana with no sub-zone mentioned, but a named production area (Greve in Chianti) and Sangiovese complemented by Cabernet and Merlot, a blend with no explained link to the area.
No distinction or guide mentioned; the producer Folonari is named, but nothing attests to its reputation, so the rating remains within the absence range.
At €90.40 (crossed out at €112.02) for an IGT Toscana without distinction, the price seems high for what is described; the crossed-out price is real.

Comment on noteThe wine
Imagine yourself in the heart of Tuscany, where the hills roll under the sun. This wine is an invitation to that journey, a meeting between tradition and a modern expression of terroir. It whispers to you stories of vines and authentic flavours.
We are in Greve in Chianti, at the Vigneti Tenute del Cabreo, an estate whose name is marketed by Folonari. It is here, on these blessed lands, that this Toscana IGT is born. This wine is the fruit of a harmonious blend of Sangiovese, the king grape of Tuscany, to which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are added. This union gives the wine a structure and complexity that set it apart, while retaining a typically Tuscan elegance. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with a maceration of about four weeks, allowing a gentle extraction of aromas and colour.
When you pour this Cabreo Il Borgo 2017, you discover a ruby robe with bright highlights, a promise of great vitality. The nose is an enchanting bouquet: I first perceive delicate floral notes, then aromas of fruit, notably marasca, lifted by spicy touches. Let it open up, and you will distinguish nuances of incense, chocolate, tobacco and a hint of vanilla, an inheritance from its ageing. On the palate, this wine offers remarkable balance. The tannins are present but silky, well integrated, and the acidity brings a welcome freshness that carries the tasting. Its ageing of at least 24 months in barrique gives it beautiful complexity and a pleasant persistence.
This Cabreo Il Borgo is an ideal companion for your meals. I recommend it with arrosti, those traditional roasts that are the pride of Italian cuisine, or with selvaggina, game with an intense flavour. It will also be perfect with carni rosse, red meats grilled or in sauce, and will elevate a platter of formaggi stagionati, aged cheeses with well-developed characters. Serve it between 16 and 18 °C to appreciate its full aromatic palette.
This wine is a true expression of Tuscan conviviality. It is not made to be forgotten at the bottom of a cellar, but to be shared, to accompany those moments when we take the time to savour life. It is an invitation to discovery, to the simple joy of a good glass of wine among friends or family. Let yourself be tempted by this gem of Tuscany; it will charm you with its authenticity and balance.
